Oracle of the Day

Follow Your Highest Truth.

Positive Affirmation of the Day:

I listen to the lyrics the spirit sings to me.

Central Theme of Your Writing Piece for the Day

It’s integral to take some pride in your world and follow your highest truth.  Your spirit encourages you to always do right, with the right intentions to see the truth in your history.  This will allow you to find a bit of clarity in your quest.  Always come from a place of goodwill.

A Personal Experience

A fellow writer in our writing group wanted to write a book with a science fiction theme, however vampires, werewolves, shape shifters and all things mythological captivated the market.  People wanted more of this literary world.  Frank** went to the library and checked out a few books on vampires.  He thought if he researched enough about this hot trend, he would be able to craft a book that would fly off the shelves.  When it came time to write, all he ended up were fragments of a story.  This is fantastic, but Frank couldn’t feel the story.

We tried to brainstorm an outline to help Frank gain some clarity, but he just couldn’t see it going anywhere.  Why? He remained stuck on wanting to be a bestseller.

Finally, someone threw in an idea of Vampires in Space and mentioned a book written in 1976 by Colin Wilson “The Space Vampires”.  We surfed the web for some crazy Science Fiction themes combined with the Supernatural. The search opened up some great dialogue of people creating new genres within the fiction world.

Frank decided he would revisit the combining of the genres at a later time because he was inspired to write a short story while he sorted out another story. Sometimes the spirit puts interesting ideas in your head because you were meant to inspire others.  In this instance, Frank inspired us to have a discussion about whether it was acceptable to create our own worlds even if there is no real “known” genre.

Others in the group stretched their boundaries and tried their hand at mixing stories.  This is the beauty of fiction.  Anything is possible.

People can create a new genre as well as subgenres.  It can be done if you listen to the song within you.  Your spirit will whisper the story to you that you were meant to write.  The whisper might come in the form of a:

  • Whisper
  • Music
  • Poetry
  • A myth
  • History
  • A story

Just a reminder, genres become popular because of the way they make the imagination take flight.  Certain books become best sellers because of the way they make the reader FEEL.  If you can do that, you will always win.

**(names have been changed)

You have two writing challenges for your intuitive connection journal today.  Read the challenges and close your eyes to connect with that snippet of time.  Allow yourself to walk through the experience and be sure to capture as much as you can with your words.

Writing Challenge #1: In the upcoming days, carry a pen/paper with you.  Carry on like you always do, but you’re going to jot down notes here and there.  For example: If you’re working on a historical memoir of your family’s history, listen to the stories of your family members.  Record their stories.  Note their dialect, the way they share the story, the accent, and note any words or events that are emphasized.  Listen to your spirit and you will be guided where you need to go.

Writing Challenge #2: Are there any song lyrics that seem to play in your head?  More times than not, all that gets played is a fragment of a song.  What are the lyrics?  What does it tell you?  What does it mean to you?

Once you’ve completed your writing challenge, set it aside.  After some days have passed, return to your work and see how you can incorporate some of what you have written into your current book.

Happy Writing.
