Positive Affirmation of the Day:

I maintain balance in my spiritual life.

Central theme of your writing piece for the day:

The Keeper of the Scales has been reversed.  Somewhere along the line your life has gotten away from you and turned upside down.  Your behavior might have turned from being pleasant to undesirable. Or the attitudes of others could be throwing you off your game.

No matter what is unbalanced in your life at the moment. The only way to correct this is to take a step back and replenish your energy sources.  Remember the saying: If you don’t take care of yourself, you cannot take care of anyone else.

Writing Focus:

The other day, I was on a field trip with my kiddo.  All the parents there were having a great time as we listened to the tour guide talk about the different areas of the grocery store.

Out of nowhere, I felt a woman push me aside.  The forcefulness of her threw me off guard, and I told her that I didn’t hear her say ‘excuse me’.  I mentioned my deafness.  She looked at me and said, “I didn’t say excuse me.”

Everything about her felt chaotic.  She face screamed discontentment.  The stress lines around her eyes and the tension she carried in her shoulders.  The other parents shook their heads at her and looked at her with disapproval.

It didn’t bother me at all.

Why?

We all have days where we are off our game.  I didn’t know what was going on in her life.  Anything could have contributed to her behavior.  This is the fun part about being a writer — you can create all sorts of interesting scenarios as to why people behave the way they do.

What do you think her issue was?

On another note, your life might be unbalanced.  Or your character might have a bit of an issue in his/her life.  It’s hard to remain unaffected by the attitudes of others.    The imbalance of others ripples into your life.

I didn’t show it — outwardly — that I was troubled by this woman’s rudeness.  Everyone has their story — I get it.  We are all energy forms and somewhere we express that unbalance.

The trick is to shake off the desire to pass on that attitude to another.  We are all dealing with something.

Your character…

How does your character handle it when someone wrongs him?

What does your character do when someone has been rude to her and tosses in a dose of humiliation?

Can you show us the reasons for the behaviors of another?  Can you show us how your character handles nasty behavior? Does your character become unbalanced or remains balanced?

I Dare You To Take Action Prompt:

Find a busy coffee shop or a place where you can watch people.  Bring a pen and paper. Yep, we’re going to be a bit old fashioned here. Jot down your observations of folks that come and go.  What are their attitudes like?  Are they happy or sad?  Speculate the reasons behind their emotions.

Observe their attire?  Do you think the woman who came in the store in sweats with paint stains on them is messy in other areas of her life?  How about the man with the hole in his shirt near his left pocket?  Is he feeling well?

These observations can be used to flesh out your rough draft.

SignatureGood luck and happy writing!
