Central theme of your writing piece for the day:

One of the most powerful cards signifies change is The Tower.  When such card shows up, your character is forced to reevaluate his/her values or life style.  The Tower does come with consequences – some rather severe.  The main purpose is to force the character to wake up to the realities of what is going on around them.

Remember after chaos, comes growth.  The lightning in this card illustrates this point.  Granted, during the tumultuous storm, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel may prove impossible as the only light you see at the moment are the bursts of light from the sky.  However, at the end of it all, lightning does give life.

Think nitrogen fixation.  I know, I know… I couldn’t resist.  This is the science teacher in me that is coming out.  Nitrogen fixation allows the crops to flourish.  I will spare you the scientific details, but you in this instance are being fueled by this so called nitrogen.

Writing Focus:

Once upon a time, The Tower card appeared to me in dream.  I could smell, feel, taste, hear, and see everything as if it were real.  Fast forward to the end of the dream, I ran down the apartment stairs and made it to the bottom.  Somehow I made it out of the building and when I looked up, a massive bolt of lightening struck the building.  A fire roared to life and piece by piece, the building crumbled.

I scribbled my dream down and tried to make sense of the details.  It was hard to get the stench of smoke out of my nose for most of the day.  Then, after work was when I realized that my dream was not meant for me, it was meant for someone else.  This person got some news that shook them to the very core. Yep, you guessed it.  My friend, who had a family to support and bills, received some disturbing news — the company did layoffs and that was that.

My suggestion to this person was to wipe their previous beliefs away and start fresh.  The Tower calls for an element of surprise, or a rude awakening.  The old ways do not cut it any more.  This process takes time and healing must take place.  In a way, my friend needed to reinvent themselves.

Once my friend was able to accept that this change was inevitable, then they were able to find peace.  The act of accepting the new road that has been paved, my friend was able to create stronger connections with the community and found a new job that ended up paying twice as much as the old job.

What about you?  What has happened to you when The Tower showed up in your life?  How can you incorporate this into your rough draft?

Has you character been forced to rethink his or her belief system and rebuild it from the ground up?  One example is in the book Gone with the Wind.  Scarlet O’Hara vows that despite all the misfortune that has happened in her life, she will overcome adversity and build a bigger and better future for herself.

I Dare You To Take Action Prompt:

Look at The Tower card and spend some time in meditation.  Listen to your intuition and see what your gut is telling you.  Then, set your time for 30 minutes and write about how you have overcome adversity.

Some jump starters:

What did those dark times look like?

How did you feel?

What were your thoughts as you struggled to put one foot in front of the other?

What did that crucial moment look like when things turned around for you?

How did that feel for you?

Be sure to SHOW your feelings, and capture all aspects of it: feeling, tasting, hearing, seeing, and touching.

Good luck and continue to nourish the amazing writer within!!!

Wondering where in the world I got this amazing card? It is part of the wonderful deck Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law and Barbara Moore. *I am not an affiliate in any way. I bought the card deck because they were AWESOME!*
